Incorporating as a Nonprofit
On August 8, the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro incorporates as a nonprofit religious organization under the laws of the State of Tennessee. Because of its religious purpose, the young organization is automatically recognized by the federal government as a 501(c) tax-exempt organization — a quiet legal milestone, but an important one: the community now has a formal institution behind it, not just an informal gathering.
